Four More Years of 'Build Back Better': How Much Worse Can It Get?
Is there any 'better' left?
VP Kamala Harris released her policies just two months before the presidential election, so let’s fact-check a few points.
Cut Taxes for Middle-Class Families
One of Harris’s key proposals is to quadruple taxes on stock buybacks. This idea is deeply flawed. Many middle-class Americans invest in the stock market through their 401(k)s and pensions. Raising taxes on stock buybacks would directly hurt their retirement savings, not just wealthy investors.
Harris also suggests reducing the deficit by taxing the wealthy, but history shows that tax hikes alone rarely solve deficit problems. Without a concrete plan to cut government spending, raising taxes on the rich is unlikely to generate the expected revenue, as high earners often find ways to shield income or move it offshore, as we’ve seen before.
Vice President Harris’s plans for taxing capital income may raise revenue for the government at the expense of many Americans’ savings and investments.
Make Rent More Affordable and Home Ownership More Attainable
VP Harris’s plan aims to address the housing crisis and she suggests building three million homes. Let’s take a look at the construction market over the past four years. Recent data indicates that government-led construction often leads to inefficiencies, delays, and cost overruns. Accordingly, the homes Harris wishes to add may take longer to build at a higher cost.
Penalizing firms for holding onto homes or controlling rental prices could discourage investment in housing development, leading to fewer homes being built in the long run, this is a HORRIBLE IDEA. Look at what has happened to the NYC housing market, prices are at all-time highs with an average price of $4,500 per month. This plan will make the real estate market just like New York City’s real estate market – HORRIBLE.
Offering $25,000 in down payment assistance for first-time and first-generation homebuyers will destroy the housing demand given the lack of supply further driving up prices. This policy will make home affordability impossible.
Grow Small Businesses and Invest in Entrepreneurs
Trump’s attack on Harris’s track record supporting small businesses targets the last administration’s relief programs, post-pandemic. Slowness and inefficiency was ridiculed by the likes of Barstool Sport founder Dave Portnoy who raised and deployed nearly ~$42 million to small businesses struggling for support.
Strengthen and Bring Down the Cost of Health Care
Health care premiums are rising, and Harris’s plans to cancel medical debt may treat the issue rather than fix it.
Protect and Strengthen Social Security and Medicare
The last four years have done little to rid Medicare of waste, fraud, and abuse. Protecting the program with higher taxes, as Biden planned and Harris adopted, may leave the system less protected. Trump’s growth-focused and waste-reducing mindset would lean on supporting social security through economic strength.
Support American Innovation and Workers
The Inflation Reduction Act fails to lower costs for Americans. Supply and demand remain imbalanced, leading to persistence in inflation. Additionally, raising the cost to do business has backfired with businesses actually passing those onto consumers.
Provide a Pathway to the Middle Class Through Quality Affordable Education
Harris’s education agenda will end up in billions of taxpayers toward radical left ideologies including LGBTQ+ and transgender propaganda in public schools. Rather than focusing on core subjects, Harris’s policies will push schools to prioritize gender propaganda, areas that parents should address at home.
Harris’s plan is effectively undermining parents’ right to determine what values are taught to their children. Instead of empowering families, she’s using public funds to promote radical left propaganda.
Secure Our Borders and Fix Our Broken Immigration System
The Biden and Harris administration struggled with immigration. Illegal crossings have worsened under their leadership, with border facilities overwhelmed. Is it a humanitarian disaster that’s unfolding? Harris’s agenda may do little to help frustrated residents near the borders and national security.
Protect Civil Rights and Freedoms
Harris has also failed to protect civil rights and freedoms, particularly free speech. Under her leadership, the administration pressured companies like Meta (Facebook) to censor COVID-19 discussions that didn’t align with the government’s narrative. This suppression of free speech is a dangerous precedent, limiting open debate and infringing on Americans’ First Amendment rights.
Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed his regrets about caving to the White House pressure on content.
Last but not least
Harris’s campaign has spread falsified claims and promoted inaccurate statements that Trump is connected to the Project 2025 agenda. Trump has denied his involvement. Comparison of Trump’s leadership and dictatorship is fallacious, and one can look at his last four years in office as validation.
Let’s choose our words carefully and remember that everyone, including our leaders, deserves basic human respect.
